Privacy & Data

Effective date: August 3, 2026

Local-first storage

Vehicle records, repair orders, and uploaded wiring diagrams are stored locally on the user's device. Wrench Buddy AI does not currently operate user accounts or transmit those saved records to a Wrench Buddy server.

Official VIN lookup

When a user chooses Decode VIN, the VIN is sent to the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration vPIC service to retrieve manufacturer-reported vehicle information.

Offline and Connected WREN diagnostics

Offline diagnostic paths run on the user's device. If the user expressly selects Connected WREN, the vehicle year, make, model, engine, VIN if entered, mileage, symptom, diagnostic answers, and future scanner readings may be sent through Wrench Buddy's secure gateway to OpenAI for analysis. Customer names, customer phone numbers, saved repair orders, and uploaded diagrams are not included in Connected WREN requests.

The gateway asks the AI provider not to retain API responses for later retrieval. Hosting and AI providers may still process limited technical data needed to provide, secure, and prevent abuse of the service. A privacy-preserving identifier is created by the gateway for safety monitoring rather than sending a raw IP address to the AI provider.

Diagram rights

Users must own or have permission to store uploaded wiring diagrams. Generic diagrams are labeled as training references and are not represented as exact OEM diagrams.

Safety

Wrench Buddy AI provides educational and diagnostic assistance. Users must verify procedures, specifications, wire colors, connector pins, and safety requirements using authorized service information for the exact vehicle.
